Internal Affairs Policy
Avalon Police Department Internal Affairs Investigators are responsible for all investigations involving allegations of criminal conduct by police officers in Avalon. This includes, but is not limited to, allegations of excessive force, corruption, racial profiling, selective enforcement, mistreatment of prisoners, evidence tampering, and other forms of Official Misconduct. Investigations are initiated on direct complaints of private citizens or complaints by police officers against other police officers. Avalon Police Department Internal Affairs Investigators will also initiate investigations when necessary.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit supplies legal assistance and guidance to municipal and county law enforcement agencies in their individual internal affairs administrative investigations.

Date, time and location of incident
Name(s) and badge numbers(s) of the officer(s) involved
Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of any potential witnesses
Circumstances of the incident
