The Borough of Avalon has joined other sister communities throughout New Jersey with paying special recognition to police departments and public safety personnel with a thin blue line painted between the double yellow lines on Avalon Boulevard, the main entrance into the community. The blue line will also circle a traffic island on 30th Street between Ocean Drive and Dune Drive adjacent to the Avalon Public Safety Complex.
“This blue line is a show of gratitude by our residents, property owners, and visitors for the tremendous level of public service provided to our community by the Avalon Police Department”, said Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi. “Several times each week I am approached by individuals who express their appreciation for the daily efforts from police and public safety all year long. This line is a show of support and thanks to police and our entire public safety community”.
The blue line being added in appropriate locations throughout communities in New Jersey who wish to show their support for police departments statewide. A resolution to support the initiative was recently approved by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The Avalon Department of Public works painted the blue line on Monday and Tuesday, November 21-22nd in advance of the holiday weekend.
“We are deeply appreciative of the support that we receive not only from the Avalon community, but also from our elected and appointed officials”, said Avalon Police Chief William McCormick. “We remain committed to providing an extraordinary level of community policing in Avalon, and we remain supportive of our fellow officers throughout New Jersey who serve and protect the public on a daily basis”.
