Reports of a telephone scam originating from an “AVALON, NJ” number of 609-961-1439 have been received from our Agency from as far away as Texas.
The caller claims to be from the Federal Government and is collecting a financial lien against the person answering the call. Rest assured the IRS, nor does any other Federal Agency, have an office in town.
The phone number appears to be a MetroPC burner cell that is a well documented fraud. A Google search will reveal most of these types of scams.
Please review these types of calls with your elderly friends and family as the IRS does not conduct business over the telephone.
