On Saturday June 24, 2017 at 9:37 p.m., the Avalon Police Department arrested and charged one male juvenile, age 15, from Blue Bell, PA. with possession of prohibited weapons. Special Officers Chris Fitting and Ted Kot were on patrol in the area of 21st and the beach when the observed a flash of light and heard a loud zapping sound. The juvenile was found to be in possession of an electronic stun gun which is in violation of NJSA 2C:39-3h a crime of the 4th degree. The Juvenile was charged and released to his parents.

On June 27, 2017 at 7:41 p.m., Douglas J. Smith (35) of Pilesgrove, NJ was pulled over at 48th and Dune Drive by Ptlm. William Robinson for driving without a front license plate and a malfunctioning tail light. During the motor vehicle stop, Ptlm. Robinson noticed the odor of suspected marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, Mr. Smith was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance under 50 grams; possession of drug paraphernalia (both disorderly persons offenses) and driving while intoxicated. Mr. Smith was charged on a summons by the Avalon Police Department and released.

On July 1, 2017 at 3:00 a.m., Ryan T. Abell (21) of Gwynedd Valley PA was observed by Special Officers Lerner and Bukenas  acting in a suspicious manner as he was seen checking door handles on several motor vehicles in the 200 block of 49th Street , Mr. Abell discovered one vehicle to be unlocked and was seen entering and rummaging through personal belongings inside said vehicle. He then got out of the vehicle and urinated next to it. Officers were able to contact the owner of the vehicle that Mr. Abell entered and determined that he did not have permission to enter. Mr. Abell was charged with criminal trespass (petty disorderly persons offense) and urination in public (Avalon Borough Ordinance Violation). Mr. Abell was processed and released on  summonses.
