Avalon Police have formally charged a 27 year old Philadelphia woman with Theft of Movable Property following a bicycle theft sting operation in the Borough.
On Friday, July 12th at approximately 1:43am, Special Officers Scott Bertoldi and Michael Mangiaracina conducted a bicycle theft sting operation on Ocean Drive in Avalon. The officers spotted Maura Heenan walking southbound on Ocean Drive. Ms. Heenan allegedly stopped at the “bait” bicycle, picked it up, and began riding away. Officers stopped Ms. Heenan several blocks away and charged her at the scene with Theft of Movable Property. She was processed and released on her own recognizance.
The Avalon Police Department continues to crack down on all thefts and mischief throughout the community. Police will continue to arrest and charge individuals who take or deface any property that does not belong to them. Police remind residents and visitors that thefts are crimes of opportunity and easily avoided with locks and or proper storage in secure buildings.
